Lindsay's List: A Holiday Self-Help Shopping Guide
Holiday Self-Help Shopping
This time of year is often so focused on shopping and spending money and gift giving, so I thought I’d join the fun. In today’s blog post I’m sharing my Holiday Self-Help Shopping Guide with all of my favorite self-help products. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or someone you love and care about, I’ve tried to organize the list into different groups based on the type of self-help product I am recommending as well as my reasons for adding the different items to Lindsay’s List.
Coach Crate
I cannot speak highly enough about Coach Crate. The monthly subscription service has helped me stay regular with my self-care in so many ways, and I would love to have you join me on the Coach Crate adventure. You could also gift a subscription to someone you love. December’s theme is Creativity, and I am just getting started with it!
If you sign up with my link, you can save money on your first order using code FIRSTBOX at checkout! I stalk my mailbox waiting it to arrive each month, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do!
Self-Help Books
I get asked for book recommendations all the time, so here is my list of favorites:
I love anything by Mel Robbins, and here are my top recommendations from her:
The 5 Second Rule completely changed my life.
I have written a few blog posts about The 5 Second Rule. Here’s a link to the first one and here’s the link to the second one, if you’d like to check them out.
Take Control of Your Life: How to Silence Fear and Win the Mental Game
I recommend anything and everything from Brene Brown, and you can find her books at the following links:
Louise Hay is one of my all time favorites. She was first recommended to me by my amazing life coach Cassandra. Sometimes the woo woo stuff is hard for me to connect to, but I’m so glad I kept an open mind and read some of her work
You Can Heal Your Life focuses a lot on the use of affirmations in your daily life as a consistent part of self-care, and I highly recommend checking it out
Heal Your Body is another one of her books and it’s currently on my reading list. I have heard such great things about it, and I can’t wait to read it!
Louise Hay actually has a few card decks of affirmations that I have included links to in a section later in this list.
The Little Book of Gratitude by Robert Emmons is a great foundational resource all about gratitude and ways to practice it.
You Are A Badass and You Are A Badass At Making Money by Jen Sincero are both amazing!
You can even purchase them as a set at this link.
She also have a motivational calendar that gives a daily quote or idea or perspective to think about. Order the 2020 calendar, so you won’t miss any days!
Rejection Free by Scott Allan (I wrote a blog post about this book a few months ago) completely changed my awareness about rejection and acceptance.
Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers touches on a number of similar concepts as Scott Allan, but her book took a much deeper dive into the role fear plays in our lives. My blog about Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway and The 5 Truths about Fear can be found here.
Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done by Jon Acuff has helped me push through procrastination and helping me finish the projects I’ve started while getting started on the ones I want to accomplish.
Expectation Hangover by Christine Hassler is an amazing look at how we all deal with expectations and how we handle it when they are not met.
The Four Tendencies and Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin are both awesome. I took her only quiz on The Four Tendencies, and I knew I needed more information, so I ordered her books. Brene Brown endorses and recommends her work, which is why I knew I needed to check it out.
Lindsay’s Tip: I recommend reading things that are recommended or endorsed by other people you connect with and trust.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F&ck and Everything is F&cked A Book About Hope by Mark Manson are both on my favorites list.
Lindsay’s Tip: These were recommended by an entrepreneurial friend of mine that I trust, so I decided to add them to my collection. If you don’t know where to start, ask someone you trust where they began their journey.
I also recommend Unfu&k Yourself by Gary John Bishop.

Audio Books
I love love love listening to audio books. My entrepreneur life often requires me to spend time in my car driving to events and meetings, and signing up for Audible allows me to doing some self-care and personal growth and development from my car or through my earbuds connected to my phone.
If you’ve never used Audible, you can sign up for a 30 day free trial and get your first 2 audio books free when using this link, and I highly recommend it! Most of the self-help books I’ve recommended are available in audio format.
Journaling Supplies
I love journaling, and I wrote a blog post all about the benefits of writing and journaling a few months ago. If you’d like to read more about the process of journaling, you can read more about it at this link.
My favorite journals:
I love using my Moleskin journals, because they come in all sizes and colors!
XIDUOBAO Writing Journal Notebook, Leather Colorful Journals Pack of 4
Colorful Personal Notebook Set of 6 with Lined Pages, Elastic Band and Ribbon Bookmarks
I also recommend writing in your journals using fun colors or doing things to make it more fun and interesting to you. If it feels like work, you’re less likely to do it. Here are some links to my favorite pens and markers that I use in my own journaling:
Prompt Journaling
Sometimes the idea of starting with a blank piece of paper feels very overwhelming, so that is where prompt journals become your best friend. There are so many great ones available that will offer you daily or weekly prompts to get you started, and here are some links to my favorites to get you started.

Louise Hay that I talked about in the self-help book section of this holiday shopping guide actually has a few card decks of affirmations that can be used to start incorporating them into your life. The links to the decks are below:
I also like the following decks of affirmation cards:
Creativity Resources
Adult coloring books
Coloring Journals
Paint by numbers (Lindsay’s tip: Great for those who don’t feel creative by want to be!)
Paint by diamonds
What’s Your Word?
For the past few years, I have decided to pick a yearly theme or word/phrase as a way to guide my goal setting and vision for the next year. I start that brainstorming process in October during my reset phase, so that I have a lot of time to give it a lot of thought. I talked about the 3 R’s: Reflect, Recharge, and Reset in a blog a few weeks ago if you’d like to check it out here to learn more about what I mean by the reset phase.
Have you see the What’s Your Word? #MyIntent jewelry and keychains? I remember seeing them show up on social media a few years ago, and I loved that there was a way to carry your word/theme with you everywhere you go. In fact, I loved it so much I decided I wanted to be able to make my own and offer them to others looking to create a word/phrase to guide them. I am offering a kickoff discount for anyone wanting to get their new What’s Your Word? MyIntent bracelet, necklace or keychain from me.
Send me a message to my email lindsay@lindsaywalden.com and include the code: WORD2020LW to save 20% off your order. If you’d prefer to order directly from the website, you can find my shop link here and save $10 off your order!
I wrote a blog all about my this new offering and my own experience picking a word these past few years as a way to keep myself on track. You can read it at this link if you’d like.

My FREE 28 Days of Gratitude Challenge launched last month, and you can join anytime you’re ready!
I set up the challenge in a way so that once you join, each day for 28 days you will get an email sent to you with a daily gratitude prompt or activity that will take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.
