You Can Choose Your Response & How to Join My Relationship Communication Workshop

Relationship Communication Workshop Updates

I have created an online Relationship Communication Workshop to help you dig into the communication struggles in your relationship and start getting things back on track. During the past month, I have had a number of participants submit reviews and suggestions of different lessons that would be a great addition to the workshop. I want this to be as helpful as possible, so I have decided to listen to the feedback and expand the course to include even more relationship guidance.

I realize that not everyone wants to go through long-term therapy or the process of getting to a therapy appointment may not fit into your busy schedule. That's why I created this course. I wanted to provide you with a way to get access to the tools my clients get from me in my practice, but you can access the material from the comfort of your own home or wherever you are.

Do you feel like you are having trouble communicating with your partner or spouse? Maybe certain conversations end up with high emotions and a loss of connection? Learn how reacting vs responding can make all the difference and help get your relationship back on track.

Reacting vs. Responding

Did you know you can learn to pause and choose how you want to respond to things that happen in your life? It's a process to learn how to do this, but it can be such a powerful experience to not feel emotionally reactive to everything that happens.

We are often quite reactionary to things, and this is especially true in conversations when we want to make sure we are being heard. This is also true if we feel attacked and feel like we have to defend ourselves. In relationships, we are not always going to agree on everything or do everything the way our significant other would like. So how do we learn to communicate about things without creating combustible interactions?

Choose Your Response

The good news is we can learn to choose our responses rather than reacting emotionally. This is not to say that the emotion doesn't matter, but I teach my clients how to incorporate logic and emotion into their responses. The ability to control our reactions is a very important component of actively listening and using courageous conversation. You can read more about that in my last blog if you’d like more insight into those concepts.

Nearly a decade ago, I started using my Relationship Communication Checklist with my clients. My blog from a few weeks ago dug into this checklist and how to use it. You can find that post here, and I’ve included the checklist below for you to get an idea of how it works.

The checklist is a way to slow down the reaction by asking yourself the following simple questions.

  1. Does it need to be said?

  2. Does it need to be said now?

  3. Does it need to be said by me?
