Therapy Thoughts with Lindsay - Episode 9: The #MeToo Movement, Why It's Still Needed & Healing
Today is the 9th episode of Therapy Thoughts with Lindsay, and we are keeping it real and getting personal again this week.
Exactly 2 years ago today, I publicly shared my own #MeToo story and joined a movement that has dramatically and amazingly changed my life. I had never hidden from the truth of the rape I went through in college, but I had never owned it or shared it in a public way.
When I went back to school to be a therapist, I knew I wanted to work with survivors of trauma and abuse, and I feel so honored and privileged to have had the opportunity to help so many people reclaim their lives after enduring so much hurt.
As I saw the #MeToo trending on social media, I felt like I had to share. I decided that I wanted to use my story to help others heal and to see that it is possible to go from feeling like a victim to feeling like a survivor. I have always admired Randy Cash’s willingness to share his own story, and I really appreciate his openness as we discuss the #MeToo movement and why it’s still needed and how healing is possible.
I did write a blog post about my experience sharing my story publicly as well as the documentary project I took part in with Gazelle magazine in early 2018. Here’s the link to the blog post if you’d like to read more!
