What is Gratitude?
I talk about gratitude all the time, but often I find that there are many misconceptions about what it actually is. Most people think it’s just being thankful for the good things in life, and although that is part of it, there is much more to it than that. I like to think of it like this. Gratitude is the mindful conscious decision to focus on the good things in life in spite of the bad and to find some joy in each and every situation of our lives.
The practice of gratitude is a powerful tool. In fact, it is the most powerful way I have found that we can shift our mindset from focusing on negativity and problems. This tool can also be such a helpful practice to strengthen and enrich relationships.

Relationship Gratitude Benefits
There are 3 incredibly helpful things that gratitude does when practiced regularly.
Gratitude amplifies, rescues, and connects.
Gratitude amplifies: The good we see in ourselves and in others is multiplied and magnified by using gratitude as a tool. Gratitude helps us see and solidify the goodness in our lives by turning our attention and focus on those things. Rather than focusing on the negative aspects of life, focusing on gratitude amplifies the good we see in ourselves and in others.
Gratitude rescues
Gratitude rescues: Our brains are almost hardwired to see the negatives and the bad things in our lives and all around us. The world we live in is also really good at giving us reasons to believe the negative messages, almost like we are hijacked from being able to see anything good. Gratitude is an ally to help counterbalance these internal and external threats to happiness. Rather than being robbed of our joy, gratitude can help us get back on track in order to find contentment and inner peace.
Gratitude connects
Gratitude connects: We are not alone on this journey of life, but we can often feel isolated and at odds with others. Gratitude is a way of strengthening and solidifying the relationships in our lives, and it helps us build bridges of connection with others.
The Ultimate Relationship Gratitude Practice All you need is this one journal prompt. Practice it daily, making it a part of your morning or bedtime routine, and watch your relationship start to change for the better. It doesn't take much but it does require you to be consistent and mindful. You can do it! Get started today!
Relationship Gratitude Practice
Starting a gratitude practice doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does require consistency. When implementing this practice into your life, I suggest doing it at the first thing you do in the morning or the last thing you do before going to bed.
Here’s a simple way to do it:
Write down 3-5 things you’re grateful for about your relationship and/or your partner.
Pick 1 or 2 of the things you wrote down and write a sentence on two expanding on your reasons you’re grateful for that thing
Try to make a list of different things from day to day as a way to strengthen your ability to tap into gratitude
If you can’t come up with new things each day when you’re first doing this practice, it’s still important to stay consistent with the practice each day.
Relationship Communication Workshop Updates
I have created an online Relationship Communication Workshop to help you dig into the communication struggles in your relationship and start getting things back on track. During the past month, I have had a number of participants submit reviews and suggestions of different lessons that would be a great addition to the workshop. I want this to be as helpful as possible, so I have decided to listen to the feedback and expand the course to include even more relationship guidance.
I realize that not everyone wants to go through long-term therapy or the process of getting to a therapy appointment may not fit into your busy schedule. That's why I created this course. I wanted to provide you with a way to get access to the tools my clients get from me in my practice, but you can access the material from the comfort of your own home or wherever you are.
