Are you and your partner feeling the stress from the current crisis? With everyone practicing social distancing, that might mean you guys are in the house together more often than not. Relationship Survival Tips

  • Create and stick to a schedule

    • Our brains function better with structure and having a schedule helps to keep you grounded in life. This is especially true during a time like we are currently going through.

    • The more grounded you feel in your own life, the better your relationships are going to be.

  • Make sure everyone is getting enough downtime/me-time

    • Too much togetherness can lead to frustration and aggravation. You love your family and your significant other, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t set aside some time to recharge your own batteries.

  • Plan activities to do together that don’t involve media or other numbing behaviors

    • Too much negative input from sources like news and social media can dramatically increase feelings of anxiety.

    • Just a few ideas of ways to connect with each other include:

      • Have a picnic in your living room by candlelight

      • Watch movies

      • Play games

      • Work on a project together

  • Remember that everyone reacts to this situation with different emotions

    • Empathy is the key.

      • Try to put yourself in their shoes to understand why they may be reacting to things in their own way.

      • You don’t have to agree on everything to be supportive and understanding.

  • Self-care is a necessity

    • Taking intentional time during your day (5-30 minutes is ideal) will help you stay grounded and less depleted of your emotional energy

    • Some self care ideas include

      • Be creative

      • Move your body

      • Do a gratitude activity

      • Practice mindfulness

      • Meditate

      • Journal

  • Use this time to reset your relationship and your communication

    • What better time to work on your relationship than now?! Since you’re going to be spending so much time together, I suggest using the time to set intentions, goals and a vision for your relationship

    • Download my FREE Relationship Communication Guide to help get things started. In it, I offer tips, tricks and suggestions to help you out.
