Q&A

I am also going to be using my weekly blog to answer some of the questions I’m receiving. If you can’t join the weekly Zoom support call, I’ll be recapping some of the highlights in my blogs as a way to help as much as I possible can.

Here are a few of the questions from last week’s support call.

Are you feeling like you shouldn't make plans out of fear of disappointment or uncertainty of what will happen in the future? Don't stop dreaming and making plans. Get excited for what's to come but also be flexible in your expectations. Know things…

Are you feeling like you shouldn't make plans out of fear of disappointment or uncertainty of what will happen in the future? Don't stop dreaming and making plans. Get excited for what's to come but also be flexible in your expectations. Know things might change and that's ok. Roll with it and enjoy the day you have and be excited for what's to come.

1.) I feel like it’s stupid to make plans or give myself hope for things that I’ll do when I’m able to again... Should I make plans or is that just giving myself false hope?

Lindsay’s Answer: Although I don’t want you to overwhelm yourself with making lots of plans, I also don’t want you to put our goals and dreams and hopes on hold. Rather than having firm dates on plans, this would be a time to make a more open ended goal list. Brainstorm some things that you would like to accomplish once you are able to resume activities. Give yourself the flexibility to shift if needed, and be realistic about what you’re planning. But please do not put yourself in a state of feeling stuck or like you can’t make plans or set goals for yourself.

Are you realizing how fast pace you were going before staying home? Are you enjoying the slower pace, living by the moment, and the quiet and easy-going parts of your day you never got when you were at the office? Perhaps now is the time to think about what you really want to do and check out options you have to start living the life you want.

2.) What if I kind of like this stay-at-home thing? I see so many people wanting it to be over and I’m not wanting it to end. Is that normal?

Lindsay’s Answer: Everyone is handling this stay-at-home time differently, and there is no one right or wrong way to process things. The world we live in had gotten increasingly busy, and often we feel pulled in a multitude of directions all at one time. In fact, I would regularly hear from my clients that they, “never have enough time“.

There are many people that are enjoying feeling less rushed and less bombarded by life. Although we know we are in a transition, I think it is completely understandable that many people are enjoying the slower pace of life. Maybe this is a good time to take note of some of the things you are enjoying and reasons that you like the slower pace. Maybe you just want to continue into the future without feeling so many requirements on yourself. This is a perfect time to reset on a number of levels, and so using this time as a way to reflect on what you do and don’t want in your life could be very helpful.

During times of overwhelm it's ok to experience big emotions. Don't forget you have tools to use to help with the overload. Check out some examples of free tools you can start using right now and start to find your balance again.

3.) I have spent years working on my mental health. I feel like my OCD and anxiety is really activated. Any tips for how to manage these?

Lindsay’s Answer: I have worked throughout my career with anxiety conditions, specifically those who struggle with OCD and OCD like behaviors. There are a number of mental health conditions that are being triggered by what is currently happening in our society. You always want to remind yourself that you don’t have to give in to your emotions/feelings. If you’re feeling your OCD and/or anxiety is activated, you want to institute some of your mindfulness-based strategies and use your mindset tools to reset. You don’t have to give into the fear, and you can still live responsibly finding balance.
