Attachment Theory in Relationships
If you didn’t get a chance to check out my blog from 3 weeks ago, I did an overview high-level explanation of the 4 different attachment styles. The video blog from that post is attached below.
You can also watch my overview video blog from 2 weeks ago on Secure Attachment below.

Find Your Attachment Style
There are many different quizzes and assessments geared towards helping you find your attachment style. As with all assessments, the results are to be used as a guide to better understand yourself and how you show up in the world. Specifically, knowing your attachment style can be a super helpful tool when understanding how you show up in your relationship.
I really like the Personal Development School’s attachment style quiz, and if you’d like to know your type, you can take a free assessment at the following link: https://attachment.personaldevelopmentschool.com/
In my soon-to-relaunch Relationship Communication Workshop, there is an entire section that will be devoted to understanding even more about these attachment styles and how to manage them in relationships. After the first round of the workshop was completed, I received a number of questions about the attachment styles and requests for more information, so I decided to incorporate them into the workshop.
Are you familiar with the 4 different attachment style types? This week I am talking about the characteristics of Dismissive Avoidant Attachment Type and how it relates to relationships. You can still get my FREE Relationship Communication Guide. Don't miss out!
Understanding Dismissive Avoidant Attachment
If you have a dismissive avoidant attachment type, the following characteristics are likely to be true about you:
You have a positive view of yourself and a negative view of others.
You find yourself fearing commitment.
You crave your own space and need a sense of freedom.
You are comfortable without close emotional relationships.
You want to feel independent and self-sufficient.
You do not want to depend on anyone or have anyone else depend on you.
You may avoid any and all attachments to others.
You struggle to feel vulnerable.
You may deny to yourself and to others your own need to have any form of close relationships.
You may view relationships as unimportant or unnecessary.
You do not seek and may avoid intimacy.
You could be viewed as emotionally defensive or as though you are trying to suppress hide and/or avoid feelings.
You don’t handle rejection well, so you either distance yourself from others or you reject others so they won’t have a chance to reject you.
In the following video, I dig into the dismissive avoidant attachment style even more to give you more details about how it shows up.
Relationship Communication Workshop Updates
I have created an online Relationship Communication Workshop to help you dig into the communication struggles in your relationship and start getting things back on track. During the past month, I have had a number of participants submit reviews and suggestions of different lessons that would be a great addition to the workshop. I want this to be as helpful as possible, so I have decided to listen to the feedback and expand the course to include even more relationship guidance.
I realize that not everyone wants to go through long-term therapy or the process of getting to a therapy appointment may not fit into your busy schedule. That's why I created this course. I wanted to provide you with a way to get access to the tools my clients get from me in my practice, but you can access the material from the comfort of your own home or wherever you are.
